Ocean Trapped In Stone

Ethiopian Welo Opal is a recently discovered very bright and spectacular opal. A large majority of this gem is hydrophane meaning if it is soaked in water the base color can become clear increasing the play of color or it can sometimes vanish. It almost looks like an ocean trapped inside a clear stone.
