Today's hike was at yet another location I've never been before. Rivas Canyon is part of the Temescal Gateway State Park in Santa Monica mountains. Although shorter (~4 miles roundtrip), and lower in altitude (~1200 ft) than the other hikes I've been doing with my hiking buddies J and R, it is not at all an easy one. You gain 500ft in elevation in the first 0.5 miles of the hike making it a very steep start, but the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, and Santa Monica make up for your troubles.
