Panpsychism is the view that all matter has a mental aspect, or, alternatively, all objects have a unified center of experience or point of view. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a paleontologist and a Jesuit priest, was very explicit about this point of view and he was reprimanded by the church. He conceived the idea of Omega Point, and developed Vladimir Vernadsky's concept of Noösphere.
The scifi author Cordwainer Smith, one of my favorites, was a devotee of de Chardin, and his future history "The Instrumentality of Mankind" has definite parallels to the Omega Point. There are also some parallels in the "Singularity" theory put forth by Ray Kurzweil, I think.
